You might want to think twice when you go or are traveling, to post and tag your photos. Tagging where you are and posting obvious and blatant photos that basically tell the internet world that you are away from your home for long periods of time is probably not the most ingenious idea. You really become an all out alert beacon to internet thieves who are waiting for any opportunity that presents itself. It’s probably better to just wait until you are done traveling to post all your scenic and groovy photos. When you surf the net these days, Big Brother stalks and so many cyber weirdos lurk; you might as well do your best to remain mysterious. Because, another consequence for blatant social transparency, is that the more detailed and descriptive your hashtags and @s are, the more your favorite place will soon no longer be your favorite place any more. Believe me… More People will come (encroach on your space)! It’s way more fun and way more intriguing for you to always keep everyone guessing. Where are you at and what are ya doing… Well; never can tell???

When you tag a photo, it is just so much better if you tag something you love, and this way you throw people off the scent. For a small example, you tag Ted’s Bakery because you crave their world famous pies rather then hash tagging the location of where you last surfed. Just remember, instagram (exposing of locations) = an instant crowd. Just imagine scoring perfect waves and then you tag and tell all about. So now you’ve shared your special moment with a 100 of your closest facebook friends and now, at least 50 of those special facebook friends ever so want to share, and relive in that special moment with you the following day, making your life way more crowded then it needs to be. What I’m trying to tell you, is the next day EVERYONE knows, and this ever to common scenario really sucks.

– When taking a pic, think about what you loved about a photo and photography principles like the rule of threes.

– Do your best to leave identifiable or rather, recognizable backgrounds out of the photo.

– Get creative! Put something like a leaf in the foreground and blur the background to create the shallow depth of field type of look.

Don’t be afraid to switch it up and try things out side of the box.
