Surf lessons in Hawaii?I’m planning a 7-day vacation with my mom and brother. I was wondering how many surf lessons do you think I should squeeze in? Has anyone taken any? I’ve never been surfing before so do you think I should take 2 or 3 lessons, or would I be fine with just taking one? Also, these may be semi-private lessons with my brother. Do you think me and my brother should each take individual private lessons, or take lessons together?The lessons are 2-hours long each.Let me know what you think. I’m really leaning on getting 2 lessons in during the vacation.

 ″]My daughter(she’s 17) took surf lessons last Summer and I would recommend at least 2-5. You will learn how to swim out, find the right wave, and stand during the first lesson then learn how to take the wave in during the second. If you can take more, do it, as having a pro with you always helps. The two of you will still surf together in a private or semi-private. Private and semi-private lessons are always safer and more beneficial. Some classes have 8-10 students and that can be very chaotic… Would you ever send your kid on a group driving lesson. privates with Oahu surfing experience are the only way to go.

What to wear during a first time surf lesson?I’m going to Hawaii in 1 week and want to take a surf lesson. I’ve never surfed in my life! Just wondering, should I buy some surf clothes to wear BEFORE i go to hawaii, or do they provide attire during these lesson? (of course I have a bathing suit, but I’m assuming I need one of those surf shifts or board shorts?)I’m a girl by the way:) Any help?

 You could wear different things while surfing. Since it is your first time and you will be taking lessons then the instructor may provided you with a rash guard. If he does not I would recommend wear board shorts/bikini bottom (normal bating suit trunks/bikini bottom should be fine on your first time surfing). But I do recommend getting a rash guard and even for ladies wearing board shorts, because when you are learning the Pop-up in surfing you can get a rash from rubbing your upper body along the board in attempts to stand up (you can buy a rash guard almost at any surf shop or beach supplier store). If it is only your first time surfing don’t go and invest in a wet suit of your own right away wait till after your lesson to see how much you enjoy surfing ( they can be expensive) all so take into account how often you will be going surfing (there is no need to buy an expensive wet suit if you will not be surfing too often) for women legging or surf leggings are recommended
