5 rules you must do surfing

As the art of surfing is now going to become an induction into the 2020 Japan Olympics, this highly enjoyable little sport of ours is just going to get more popular than ever. That means, with more popularity, more people in the water. Which then translates… People will have to pay closer and better attention to their surroundings, and more importantly, pay better attention towards others in the surfing line-up. The use of the word others in this instance, means your fellow surfers. This is the only way to help assure safer passage on our ocean water ways or as I like to put it, keep or aqua highways safe, decongested and flowing. Besides keeping your fellow brothers and sisters safe out there on the high seas, you know what the next best thing about “Paying Attention” is? It doesn’t cost any thing!

Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 rules you must do surfing . So here are the 5 rules you must do surfing and you should probably start applying these rules almost immediately.

#1 – Pay attention by simply keeping a consistent and vigilant eye on your surroundings. Don’t get in peoples way and they won’t get in your way I suppose is how the theory goes. It’s one of the most inconsiderate acts in surfing when there is the most perfect section on a wave for a surfer to smash and another LAZY and Inconsiderate surfer takes their slow, sweet ass time towards getting out of the way. Get out of the way people!

#2 – Paddle to the impact zone! It doesn’t sound fun and in reality, it usually isn’t but sometimes you just gotta take one for the team. No one seems to do this any more but to be absolutely frank, it is essential towards maintaining a healthier, far less dangerous line-up. This particular rule should be very well casted as the “Golden Rule of Surfing”. I warn you! Pay very close attention to this rule, because I have literally seen people get hit and stitched from a board because they didn’t go to the impact zone. I have also witnessed $500 dollar plus surfboards get shredded in 2 and the other surfer who was riding on the wave didn’t even see the person scratching for the shoulder until it was far too late.

#3 – Every spot has their locals. Respect the people that surf that spot every day. You will eventually find, that the more time you put into a certain line-up, you will eventually start seeing yourself catching more waves amongst the local crew. Battling and hassling with the natives at any surfing break is definitely the wrong way of going about things. This blatant act of machismo could lead to a horizon of unwanted and unnecessary headaches that you can easily avoid. Believe me. You don’t need that stress in your life and besides, isn’t surfing supposed to be fun anyway?

#4 – Keep an eye out for each other. If you see a person that has a bad wipe out, make sure the person always surfaces ok and without any issues. This more or less overlaps with rule #1 but be observant. Be good and treat others as you would have them do unto you.

#5 – If you’ve already had a bunch of waves, give someone else a wave who has been waiting or struggling and basically wait your turn. If and when you follow this rule, the powers that be will usually come back around and reward you and you will get twice as barreled as you would have if you just stuck to playing the lame and ever so present, greedy card.

Appreciate and earn your amazing surfing session and do your part to help keep mother nature happy, healthy and clean. A simple way to start, is by picking up a couple of pieces of trash after every surf session on the way to your car from the waters edge.
So there you have it, 5 rules you must do surfing .

TAMATO says : “It doesn’t matter if your back is to the wall or your front is to the wall. When you surf Pipe, all that really matters is, your balls to the wall!” – #surfers @bruceirons and @donkeyshow #photo #by @emiliaperry #pipeline #northshore #oahu #hawaii . #ocean #waves #rule #life #is #fun @oahusurfingexperience

BONUS #6 – There is a forgotten rule of etiquette that needs to be remembered: If you paddle your heart out and you still can’t catch the wave… yell the next guy in position to go for it! Waves are a valuable and limited resource, so it is selfish and irresponsible of you to not yell your fellow surfer into the wave that you can not catch.
So there you have it in a nut shell and I hope this blog was more then informative to our readers. Thanks for tuning in and until next time, to all my fellow wave sliders, Be SAFE for all!
