 Keep Hawaii Beautiful 3

Which lead to our next fear… blood in the water and with a stinky, algae incrusted net, and also with a few dead, decomposing fish strung in the mesh. Tamayo admitted later, that every dive he descended on to cut the net free, he heard the theme song of the movie “Jaws” playing over and over in his head. (Note to reader:  Bring gloves and avoid injury… or better yet, avoid these situations all together and do your part by picking up a bunch of rubbish off the beach at the end of your day using the beach.)

We are about a 20 minute paddle from shore and straight out to sea. Tamayo’s hands are bleeding a little and the sun is going down .

As we started to embark on our 20 minute paddle into shore, fighting against an outgoing current, in my mind I started to feel a little spooked. Lo and behold, Tamayo says the worst thing at the worst time. He says, “Wouldn’t it be the irony? Swimming all the way out here to save a couple of seals, turtles and fish and in return, die by getting eaten by a Big fish.” At first I was pissed at him, then I laughed inside my head at the absurdity and selection of timing for his statement. With no reply from me, I just pretended he didn’t speak and we swam/paddled in in eerie silence.  If anyone was watching, it would have been a site to be seen. Here’s Tamayo with a steak knife in hand  to protect himself from sharks and both of us trolling behind a 20 pound, stinky fishing net, that probably drifted here from the Japan Tsunami.

As we arrive safely on the beach exhausted, without spoken words and through a smile,Tamayo and I congratulate each other on a mission accomplished; good deed well done.  In doing so, we turn to say good bye to our monk seal friends and part our ways leaving nothing but our foot prints behind.

ocean trash
pick it up

NOTE: Never touch the turtles or the monk seals ! In fact, please keep plenty of distance away from them. Please!!! I stress to you, if you see any dogs or humans harassing the wildlife please do your part to educate. All these really cute sea creatures you see;  on the beach, in the ocean… it’s their home, so please keep your distance and admire them from a far. Think about it. It’s like me walking into your bedroom at home and taking pictures of you as you try to sleep. Not so cool is it? And if you see trash, please, do your part and pick it up. As I mentioned above… leave only your foot prints behind.

Also remember to use the buddy system. Buddy up; it can save your life! Make sure you know the conditions and know your equipment before you paddle out. Safety first! These Hawaiian waters can be treacherous, even to the world’s best watermen and women. “Respect the ocean!”

Always keep in mind and keep an open mind… you can get  surf lessons  or stand up  paddle lessons  with us here at  Oahu Surfing Experience  … or, if surfing doesn’t interest you ladies,   become a mermaid  for a photo shoot, with  Oahu Surfing Experience.  Safety is our priority and we know some great small wave spots that are away from the big waves, so you can remain calm, cool and collect and feeling the exhilaration of the ocean in a much more optimal learning environment.  Keep Hawaii Beautiful 3
